Forgotten

Mnoge ću ovde i preskočiti, a bili su fenomenalni – Friendly Fires, When Saints Go Machine (utvrđujem gradivo:), Friends, Whomadewho, Sigur Ros, We Have Band...

Somewhere in between New Year’s resolutions and Bday wishes, I stumbled upon this long forgotten Berlin folder. Although I would gladly visit Berlin without any, this time the reason was Berlin festival, a two-day indie paradise located on Tempelhof airport. As an experienced wannabe Berliner, I was a guide to Dženana and Peđa. You had a chance to meet Berlin coupleof times before on this blog, so I’ll skip the formal introduction and get straight to the point - music.  Iamamiwhoami left me breathless and speechless, so instead of trying to find the right words to describe this everything-I-love-about-Sweden hour and a half ecstasy, I’ll ask you to do your own homework on her. Except for really (and by really I mean really) having the voice we hear on the records, Grimes gets the coolest chick around award. Instead of showing us her own body, she took five hot guys, put them on the stage and stripped them from song to song – something like Rihanna in reverse. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur is definitely a moral winner – this 40 kilos-together-with-the-mixer nerd from England made THE P-A-R-T-Y! Smart, sexy...hell, smart IS sexy! Oh, and The Killers...well, every song was stadium-worthy, seems like they’ve done their U2 homework well. I must admit I even yawned a few times. And those I’ve forgetten, but who were fantastic, as well - Friendly FiresWhen Saints Go MachineFriendsWhomadewhoSigur RosWe Have Band...

As my Bday is only couple of days away from New Year’s Eve, I wish the same things two times, hoping that way  I’m doubling the chances of my dreams coming true :) Of course, this time I wished for as much Berlin as possible, something I wish to all of you, too! I hope that this indian (Berlin) summer has warmed your hearts as much as mine in the officially most depressive day of the year (I swear, I’ve heard it on the radio :)

EXIT12

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

When I was just a kid, I promised myself that I will never stop buying Mickey Mouse almanac (really popular at that time, probably the only Disney publication in Yugoslavia). In the meantime, Mickey Mouse almanac got cancelled, but I doubt that I would fulfill this irrational, childish promise anyway. Then came the teenage years, bringing first concerts, first music obsessions at a time...I was ready to make some more promises - that I will never stop going to the concerts of the bands that mean something to me, and never stop yelling the lyrics I know by heart from the first row. I'm sure that I'll rearrange my priorities a bit in the upcoming years, but, on the other hand, I don't think you can grow out of a good concert, at least not in a way you can from the Mickey Mouse comic book.

You already know that I will definitely remember this EXIT for the When Saints Go Machine gig on Elektrana stage...Especially because that night I got to wear the best accessory ever - the autograph of the singer :)

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Although their 90s synth-pop might not be my cup of tea, I must admit that Elektrana stage was literally on fire during a Sneaky Sound System gig! With a little help of a local support (suddenly, a huge group of Australians, altogether with the flag, came to conquer Elektrana :), they've really made a great intro for a Thieves Like Us DJ set, that we were waiting so eagerly. We danced, and danced, and then showed some love to Thieves Like Us in the backstage...Not the way you think, it was all about telling them how much their music means to us and circa 75673546 group elementary-school-like photos. Well, we might have exaggerated a bit - they probably think they are bigger than Madonna in Serbia :)

On Day 2, our team also had a chance to show professionalism in fandom and backstage trauma services, as we bumped into 1/4 of Azari & III, after their fantastic, hip-moving performance. Visibly traumatized by a sheer number of snapshot cameras around him, he tried to confuse us with his bling-bling Dart Vader necklace, but the effort was useless.

Fashion-wise, if judging by a sheer number of floral crowns around, there must have been a huge Lana Del Rey look alike pageant that I wasn't aware of. The winner is definitely the guy with   orange Jaegermeister flowers.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

While waiting two hours for the belated Citizens! secret acoustic gig at Jack Daniel's stage, we've spent some quality concert time with the young Slovenian band, The Toronto Drug Bust. And I might even forgive Citizens! that I missed Little Dragon because I was busy waiting for those three acoustic songs, as it was really good and intimate, but I will not forgive them the regular concert! Although all the ingredients for a great gig were there - the singer was doing all the classic rock'n'roll moves, even jumped into crowd at one point - I simply could not connect, and caught myself yawing in the first row...It might be that I'm simply too old for all those pop-rock-ey bands. Fortunately, there were A Terrible Splendour, a dark-synth romantics from London, complete with the Metropolis visuals in the background, to save the evening.
