Haute Run

Patike.

Sneakers. On a couture catwalk. Two things you wouldn't likely put in one sentence. They've crawled into (or should I say - run into :) the ready-to-wear world couple of seasons ago,  only to become the ubiquitous part of sporty luxe street chic. The recipe is quite simple - put on something überdressy and then finish that fashion sentence unexpectedly - with sneakers. I love my New Balances because I don't (have to) hate them when I'm running late. The Oscars might be approaching, but I can only yawn when I see the usual haute couture staples - the amount of lace and sequins alone could easily cause diabetes if watched for too long. Rad Hourani's unisex collection has surely made a tectonic change in the haute couture world, but you can't (and don't have to) have revolution everyday. Sometimes, it just takes some little gesture, quirky detail or the right sense of (fashion) humor to announce that the winds are going to change. A bit of applause, please, for Mr. Lagerfeld and Mr. Simons, for proving (once again) that working for Chanel or Dior doesn't mean - being stuffy.

EXIT12

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

When I was just a kid, I promised myself that I will never stop buying Mickey Mouse almanac (really popular at that time, probably the only Disney publication in Yugoslavia). In the meantime, Mickey Mouse almanac got cancelled, but I doubt that I would fulfill this irrational, childish promise anyway. Then came the teenage years, bringing first concerts, first music obsessions at a time...I was ready to make some more promises - that I will never stop going to the concerts of the bands that mean something to me, and never stop yelling the lyrics I know by heart from the first row. I'm sure that I'll rearrange my priorities a bit in the upcoming years, but, on the other hand, I don't think you can grow out of a good concert, at least not in a way you can from the Mickey Mouse comic book.

You already know that I will definitely remember this EXIT for the When Saints Go Machine gig on Elektrana stage...Especially because that night I got to wear the best accessory ever - the autograph of the singer :)

day 1 // best autograph ever / ASOS bralet / DIY dip hem pleated skirt / Moschino belt / hardware store jewelry

Although their 90s synth-pop might not be my cup of tea, I must admit that Elektrana stage was literally on fire during a Sneaky Sound System gig! With a little help of a local support (suddenly, a huge group of Australians, altogether with the flag, came to conquer Elektrana :), they've really made a great intro for a Thieves Like Us DJ set, that we were waiting so eagerly. We danced, and danced, and then showed some love to Thieves Like Us in the backstage...Not the way you think, it was all about telling them how much their music means to us and circa 75673546 group elementary-school-like photos. Well, we might have exaggerated a bit - they probably think they are bigger than Madonna in Serbia :)

On Day 2, our team also had a chance to show professionalism in fandom and backstage trauma services, as we bumped into 1/4 of Azari & III, after their fantastic, hip-moving performance. Visibly traumatized by a sheer number of snapshot cameras around him, he tried to confuse us with his bling-bling Dart Vader necklace, but the effort was useless.

Fashion-wise, if judging by a sheer number of floral crowns around, there must have been a huge Lana Del Rey look alike pageant that I wasn't aware of. The winner is definitely the guy with   orange Jaegermeister flowers.

While waiting two hours for the belated Citizens! secret acoustic gig at Jack Daniel's stage, we've spent some quality concert time with the young Slovenian band, The Toronto Drug Bust. And I might even forgive Citizens! that I missed Little Dragon because I was busy waiting for those three acoustic songs, as it was really good and intimate, but I will not forgive them the regular concert! Although all the ingredients for a great gig were there - the singer was doing all the classic rock'n'roll moves, even jumped into crowd at one point - I simply could not connect, and caught myself yawing in the first row...It might be that I'm simply too old for all those pop-rock-ey bands. Fortunately, there were A Terrible Splendour, a dark-synth romantics from London, complete with the Metropolis visuals in the background, to save the evening.
